Murcia's iconic Floridablanca Cinemas reopens as a modern gym after 18 years
The Fitness Park gym franchise has announced the opening of a brand new location, this time in the shining city of Murcia and in a historic building that will see its doors reopened after two decades of silence. Murcia's iconic Floridablanca Cinemas, a building that closed its doors in 2006, will see a new gym attract guests beginning in July.
New life breathed into one of Murcia's most iconic buildings
The iconic Floridablanca Cinemas building is located in the Carmen neighbourhood, on Alameda de Colón. The building was sold in 2025 and boasts more than 1,500 square metres spread out across three levels, including a basement, an intermediate floor and an above-ground floor. The Fitness Park gym will be the seventh location in the Region of Murcia, having already undergone months of renovations before the official announcement.
A brief history of the Floridablanca Cinemas building
The building, which has become an iconic location not just to Murcia City but to the whole of the region, has a long and rich history. Its original owners, the Floridablanca family, served cinemagoing audiences for nearly a quarter of a century. The cinema originally opened on December 5, 1981, and boasted two theatres, equipped with what was, at the time, the latest technology, as well as a music hall that was later converted into a third theatre.
On its opening day, one of the theatres showed a James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only, and the other screened Tarzan, the Ape Man.
Reviving a landmark for the residents of Murcia and beyond
Finally, the theatre will reopen as a newly refurbished gym, allowing visitors to enjoy this iconic building once more. For many residents, the reopening of the Floridablanca building represents more than just a new fitness facility to try out, but a revival of a long-dormant landmark. While its purpose has shifted, the building's return to public use reconnects it with the community it once served, blending nostalgia with modern lifestyle trends and ensuring the space remains a focal point in the neighbourhood's evolving identity.
