Veteran's life saved by groundbreaking abdominal reconstruction after war injuries
A 57-year-old veteran of the special military operation in Khorolsky District has undergone complex surgery at Primorsky Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1. The procedure aimed to repair severe abdominal damage sustained during his service. Doctors performed a TAR reconstruction to restore the anterior abdominal wall. The patient had previously suffered extensive shrapnel wounds to his abdomen while on duty. After multiple surgeries, he developed a large postoperative hernia with a 13 cm defect. Nearly a third of his abdominal organs had shifted outside the abdominal wall, complicating his condition further.
The surgery faced challenges due to widespread adhesions and tissue changes from earlier operations. Surgeons successfully separated the adhesions and returned the displaced organs to the abdominal cavity. The man was discharged from service due to his health condition before the procedure.
Following the operation, he remained under outpatient supervision. He was discharged home on the 12th day with no signs of complications. The TAR reconstruction addressed the significant abdominal wall damage caused by his injuries. The patient’s recovery marked a successful outcome after a series of medical interventions. He continues to be monitored as part of his post-surgical care.
