Free Rollator Workshops Boost Mobility and Safety Across Recklinghausen

A series of free workshops will soon help rollator users travel more safely and confidently. The sessions, organised across the Recklinghausen district and Bottrop, aim to improve mobility skills and awareness. No registration is needed, and all are welcome to attend at no cost. The first workshop kicks off on June 11, 2026, in Waltrop. Further sessions will follow in Bottrop, Dorsten, Herten, Datteln, Oer-Erkenschwick, Haltern am See, Gladbeck, Castrop-Rauxel, and Recklinghausen. A full schedule of dates and locations has been published for participants.

Traffic safety specialists will lead the workshops, offering practical advice and hands-on training. Attendees can test their rollators on a specially designed obstacle course. Experts will also check that each device is set to the correct height for its user. To improve visibility, the district will provide reflective materials for rollators. Vestische Straßenbahnen GmbH is supporting the initiative by bringing a public transit bus to the sessions. This will allow participants to practise boarding, alighting, and safe behaviour while travelling. Police President Friederike Zurhausen has highlighted the importance of secure rollator use. She noted that proper handling helps users stay focused on their surroundings and traffic conditions.

The workshops will run without charge and require no sign-up. Participants can gain practical experience, adjust their equipment, and receive safety materials. The programme aims to make journeys easier and safer for rollator users across the region.
