A week of events has been arranged to mark World Stroke Day on October 29. The initiative aims to raise awareness about one of the most dangerous and widespread cerebrovascular diseases. Stroke often leads to severe and long-lasting health problems. On October 23, the 'STOP Stroke!' campaign took place at the School of the Third Age. Tatiana Nikolaeva, chief neurologist for Yakutia’s Ministry of Health, delivered a lecture on stroke prevention. She highlighted the role of regular medical check-ups, a healthy lifestyle, and managing risk factors in reducing the likelihood of strokes.
The lecture series included talks on 'Stroke: What You Need to Know' and 'The Mysteries of Memory'. Maria Antonova, a social educator, spoke about how age, nutrition, and lifestyle affect memory. Experts also stressed the importance of recognising early stroke symptoms and applying correct first aid measures.
Attendees learned about the nature of strokes, their risk factors, and the different types of the condition. Healthy habits such as regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding alcohol and smoking were identified as key ways to lower stroke risk. The awareness campaign provided practical knowledge on stroke prevention and care. It equipped participants with the tools to identify warning signs and take action. These efforts support broader public health goals by promoting informed and proactive behaviour.
