On the Way to the Hospital: Woman Gives Birth at Gas Station

Woman gives birth at gas station after waters break in car

Sarah Frost from Trimdon in County Durham went into labour on June 7, nine days before her due date. She and her family were rushing to the hospital when her waters broke unexpectedly in the car. Frost, her sister Danielle Carlton, and her partner James were on their way to the hospital when labour began. They could not reach the hospital in time, so she gave birth at a nearby gas station.

Bystanders at the station quickly offered help, providing towels, bedsheets, and T-shirts. Frost’s partner used his own T-shirt to wrap their newborn son, who weighed 7.3 pounds. Paramedics arrived shortly after to tend to the mother and baby.

The unexpected birth became a light-hearted story at the hospital. Staff began calling the baby the 'Esso gas station baby' as an inside joke. The family has not yet chosen a name for their son. The baby and mother are receiving care after the unusual delivery. Hospital staff and bystanders played a key role in assisting during the birth.
