Mauna Kea Beach Hotel Unveils a Luxury Spa Rooted in Hawaiian Tradition

Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is set to open a new luxury spa as part of its major renovation. The 22,000-square-foot Spa at Mauna Kea draws deeply from Hawaiian traditions and natural elements. It will offer guests a unique wellness experience rooted in local culture. The spa’s design reflects the island’s landscape and healing practices. It features 11 open-air treatment rooms, including private couples’ suites with their own lanai, outdoor shower, and soaking tub. Guests will also find separate men’s and women’s purification gardens, a shared wellness deck, a movement pavilion, and a full-service salon.

Every experience begins with a traditional Hawaiian oli, or chant. Treatments use natural ingredients like pa'akai (sea salt), lā'au lapa'au (plant-based remedies), and tī leaf infusions. The spa’s signature lomilomi therapies are inspired by Hawaiian techniques and locally sourced materials.

Psalm Quinn, with over 20 years in luxury wellness across Hawai'i, leads the spa’s vision. The philosophy of Ho'ōla i Loko guides its approach, emphasising that healing starts from within. The spa is a key part of the resort’s $180+ million renovation. Spa at Mauna Kea blends modern luxury with ancient Hawaiian traditions. Its treatments and design aim to connect guests with the island’s culture and natural healing practices. The spa will open alongside the resort’s wider upgrade project.
