Yakutsk mourns the loss of dental pioneer Semyon Filipov at 63
Semyon Viktorovich Filipov, a prominent figure in Yakutsk’s dental community, has passed away suddenly at the age of 63. Born on 6 September 1960 in Chukar, Nyurba District, he dedicated over four decades to advancing dentistry in the region. Filipov began his career in 1981 after enrolling in the Faculty of Dentistry. By 1986, he worked as a dental surgeon in the maxillofacial surgery department of Republican Hospital No. 2. In 1990, he was selected for a targeted clinical residency at the N.A. Semashko Moscow Medical Stomatological Institute.
In 1996, he became the first head of a newly established dental department, a role he held until 2001. A year later, in 1997, he founded the Yakutsk Dental Association and served as its first president. In 1998, he launched a clinical residency programme in dentistry to support professional development in the field.
In 2007, he opened his own practice, Doctor Filipov Private Clinic. From 2020 to 2022, he worked under the state programme Zemsky Doctor at the Anabar Central District Hospital. Filipov’s contributions spanned education, clinical practice, and leadership in dentistry. His legacy includes the establishment of key institutions and programmes that shaped dental care in Yakutsk. He passed away on 18 October 2023.
