Why 75% of Young Professionals Face Burnout in Their First Months

Clinical psychologist Elena Kondratyeva recently delivered a talk on avoiding early-career burnout. The event took place on the House of Knowledge platform as part of Russia’s Youth Day festival. It attracted participants from the Far Eastern Federal District and beyond. During her lecture, Kondratyeva revealed that 75% of young employees show burnout symptoms within their first four months. She identified unrealistic expectations and weak work-life boundaries as major risk factors. The talk also addressed personal resources, which she divided into three categories: physical, psychological, and moral.

She challenged the idea that multitasking is effective. The human brain, she explained, cannot handle multiple complex tasks at once. Instead, she advised focusing on one demanding task at a time and saving multitasking for simpler, routine work. Kondratyeva also suggested maintaining a 'list of joys' with at least 50 activities and doing something from it daily.

The broadcast, titled 'How Not to Burn Out at the Start of Your Career', supported the Youth and Children national project. This initiative was launched by Russian President Vladimir Putin and aligns with the festival’s theme, 'Dream. Pride. Unity.' The session offered practical advice for young professionals facing early-career stress. Kondratyeva’s strategies aimed to help attendees manage workloads and maintain well-being. The event formed part of a wider effort to support youth development in Russia.
