Palghar overhauls maternal and child healthcare with emergency upgrades

Palghar district has launched a series of measures to improve maternal and child healthcare. The initiatives also aim to enhance emergency medical response and upgrade public health services in remote areas. The district administration announced plans to review every maternal death in depth. These reviews will identify systemic gaps and improve referral mechanisms for expectant mothers. Medical Officers have also been directed to stay at their assigned Primary Health Centres and Rural Hospitals to guarantee immediate care availability.

New hospitals were added to Palghar’s healthcare network in May 2026. This expansion increases access to quality treatment under government schemes. Registration camps for Ayushman Bharat will now run alongside Revenue Department events to ensure full coverage of eligible residents.

To strengthen monitoring, Maternal and Child Control Rooms have been set up at district, taluka, and Primary Health Centre levels. These will track pregnant women and newborns closely. For better emergency services, GPS tracking will be introduced for 108 and 102 ambulances in remote talukas, ensuring quicker and more accountable responses.

The district is also preparing proposals for advanced TB diagnostic machines and digital X-ray units. Efforts are underway to help healthcare facilities achieve NQAS certification. Additionally, Women’s Self-Help Groups will produce nutritious supplementary food for malnourished children in vulnerable communities.

A district-wide screening programme for Sickle Cell Disease will cover individuals aged 0-40. Targeted interventions for severe anaemia will also be implemented as part of the Anaemia-Free Campaign. These steps are designed to reduce maternal and child mortality rates in Palghar. They will also expand diagnostic capabilities and ensure better nutrition for at-risk children. The upgrades aim to create a more responsive and efficient public health system.
