Germany's Heart Week 2026 targets prevention with free pharmacy checks
The 7th Heart Week will take place across Germany from 15 to 19 June 2026. Organised by the Saxony-Anhalt Chamber of Pharmacists under Dr. Jens-Andreas Münch, the event aims to raise awareness about heart health. Pharmacies will offer free consultations and health checks during the week. Heart disease remains a leading cause of death in Germany, with Saxony-Anhalt recording particularly high mortality rates from acute heart attacks. The initiative seeks to address this by providing education on risk factors and prevention.
Participating pharmacies will offer blood pressure measurements and use the HerzFit app to assess individual heart age. They will also provide advice on nutrition, exercise, and smoking cessation. Medication reviews will help optimise drug therapy for those at risk.
A key focus will be the differences in heart attack symptoms between men and women. Women often experience atypical signs, which can lead to delayed diagnosis. Pharmacies will highlight these gender-specific differences to improve early recognition.
The programme includes demonstrations of proper emergency response. Visitors can also learn more about heart health through informational materials and discussions with pharmacists. Heart Week runs from 15 to 19 June 2026 in pharmacies nationwide. The event offers practical tools and knowledge to help people manage heart health risks.
