Kazakhstan honors lifelong blood donors on World Blood Donor Day

A festive event took place in the capital on June 14 to mark World Blood Donor Day. The gathering aimed to highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation and thank those who contribute. Five individuals received the title of 'Honored Donor' for their long-standing commitment to giving blood or its components more than 40 times. The event was organised by the Scientific and Production Center for Transfusiology. Support came from the Ministry of Health, local authorities, and various sponsors. Aigerim Sagambayeva, head of the donor recruitment department, noted that the centre sees between 120 and 150 donors every day.

Among the honorees was Nurlan Zhusupov, who has donated blood regularly since 2012. He stressed the need for donors to look after their own health before giving blood. Sagambayeva also pointed out that blood is vital for treating serious conditions, such as complex surgeries, childbirth complications, and cancer therapy.

Organisers believe the growing donor movement, especially among young people, will help ensure a steady supply of blood and its components. In 2025, Kazakhstan’s donor movement included over 201,000 participants, with a total of 250,000 donations recorded. The ceremony celebrated the contributions of dedicated donors and reinforced the message of voluntary donation. The recognition of long-term donors and the emphasis on health awareness underline the ongoing efforts to support blood supply across the country.
