First Aid Course - Rhönblick School Starters Know What to Do in an Emergency

Kindergarteners Learn Lifesaving Skills in First Aid Course Before School Starts

Directors from DRK Rhönblick kindergartens in Helmershausen, Wohlmuthausen, and Stedtlingen recently organised a first aid course for soon-to-be first graders. The event took place at the Helmershausen kindergarten, combining learning with a chance for children to meet future classmates. Silvana Klett, head of education and social services at DRK Meiningen, joined the meeting to discuss the training. The day began with a shared breakfast, giving the children time to get to know one another. Over the next hour and a half, DRK instructor Mr. Röder taught them about the emergency call chain and how to respond to minor and serious accidents. He used play and hands-on examples to keep the session engaging.

The children practised applying bandages to each other, their teachers, and even a giant teddy bear. They learned the importance of taking quick action in emergencies and the value of small first aid steps. At the end of the course, each child received a certificate of participation and a small gift.

Organising such courses can be difficult for smaller kindergartens, as they require at least eight participating children to run in-house. After the session, the children eagerly shared their new knowledge with their parents. The first aid course provided practical skills and a fun introduction for future classmates. The children left with certificates, small gifts, and a better understanding of emergency care. Directors from the three kindergartens successfully coordinated the event despite the challenges of meeting participation requirements.
