Mpox case confirmed in Mandaluyong as DOH reports 79% drop in infections

The Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed a case of Mpox in Mandaluyong City. The case was identified by the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit on 29 June 2026. Officials have stated there is no cause for public alarm. From 1 January to 13 June 2026, the country recorded 44 Mpox cases. This figure is 79% lower than the 205 cases reported in the same period in 2025. The DOH has noted a clear decline in infections compared to last year.

The DOH has left the management of the Mandaluyong case to the local government unit. Under Republic Act No. 11332, LGUs hold the authority to issue their own health advisories for their areas. The department has also reiterated that it does not disclose details of individual cases to protect privacy and prevent stigma.

Authorities have confirmed there is no current outbreak or rise in Mpox numbers. They have urged the public to remain calm. The DOH continues to monitor the situation closely. Local governments retain responsibility for public health responses in their regions. The overall number of cases remains significantly lower than in the previous year.
