Abu Dhabi launches rapid blood toxicology testing to transform healthcare
The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council has launched advanced blood toxicology testing services at its Central Testing Laboratory. This development enables the emirate to detect heavy metals and toxic agents in blood without sending samples abroad. Officials have highlighted the move as a key step in enhancing local healthcare innovation. The new service significantly cuts testing turnaround times from days to just hours. It was developed in partnership with M42 and employs cutting-edge technologies like ICP-MS, as noted by Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini.
The activation of these services strengthens Abu Dhabi’s laboratory capabilities and boosts emergency health preparedness. It also ensures continuity by eliminating risks tied to transporting samples overseas. Currently, the service is available to several healthcare and strategic entities, including the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi.
Fahad Ghareeb Al Shamsi described the initiative as a major transformation in the emirate’s public health ecosystem. Officials added that it supports rapid diagnosis and immediate intervention, reinforcing prevention and public health protection. The new testing service enhances Abu Dhabi’s ability to respond swiftly to health threats. It also reduces reliance on foreign labs and improves the efficiency of local healthcare systems. The achievement underscores the emirate’s long-term commitment to building a proactive and innovative healthcare framework.
