Herbal Supplement SLT Shows Promise for Mild Cognitive Impairment

SaiLuoTong (SLT), an herbal supplement, has drawn interest for its potential to ease symptoms of mild cognitive impairment. The condition sits between normal age-related memory loss and the more severe decline seen in dementia. Many herbal products line pharmacy shelves, but their effects often remain unproven. A study by the Alzheimer’s Association examined SLT’s impact on older adults. The supplement contains extracts of ginseng, ginkgo, and saffron, all known for their possible health benefits. Together, these ingredients may offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

In a trial with 78 participants aged 60 or older, SLT improved logical memory and executive function after 12 weeks. Researchers also reported that the supplement was well-tolerated, with few mild or moderate side effects. Dr Genevieve Steiner-Lim, the lead author, highlighted that people with mild cognitive impairment face a higher risk of developing dementia. The findings suggest SLT may help memory and thinking skills in those with mild cognitive impairment. While some supplements show real benefits, others fail to deliver or cause harm. Further research will clarify SLT’s long-term role in supporting brain health.
