New white paper calls for urgent digital transformation in adult social care

A new white paper has been launched by techUK’s Social Care Working Group. Titled Why digital adult social care transformation is central to the future of the NHS, it outlines key principles for driving digital change in the sector. The document highlights the urgent need for better coordination to support the NHS’s long-term goals. The paper draws on real-world examples and case studies from multiple organisations. It also includes insights from industry thought leaders. Together, these show how digital transformation can reshape adult social care.

According to the report, the technologies required for this shift already exist and are in use. However, a missing coordination layer is preventing wider adoption. The white paper stresses that the NHS 10-Year Plan’s three major shifts depend heavily on progress in adult social care.

Sir David Pearson CBE, chair of TEC Quality, contributes a foreword to the paper. He emphasises the tangible benefits of digital solutions in social care settings. The document also calls for a redistribution of existing prevention funding to support innovation. Implementing and scaling these solutions will require joint action from multiple stakeholders. The white paper presents a clear case for digital transformation in adult social care. It provides actionable principles and highlights the need for better funding and collaboration. Without these changes, the NHS’s broader objectives may face delays.
