Russia's First Mobile App Diagnoses Child Speech Disorders with AI Precision

Researchers at HSE have created Russia’s first standardised mobile app for diagnosing speech disorders in children. The tool is designed to identify phonological processing issues, including dyslexia and dysgraphia. It offers a new approach to assessing speech difficulties in young users. The app was developed using global best practices and input from leading Russian neuropsychologists. It includes seven tasks of different difficulty levels to test speech comprehension and production.

It records a child’s responses and compares them to age-specific benchmarks. This removes reliance on the examiner’s pronunciation and allows progress to be tracked over time. The system has been validated through multiple studies, proving its reliability and accuracy.

Beyond diagnosis, the app helps create personalised correction programmes. These are tailored to the specific needs of each child, improving the effectiveness of intervention. The new tool provides a standardised method for detecting speech disorders. It supports early intervention through precise, individualised programmes. Schools and specialists can now use a validated, mobile solution for assessing children’s speech development.
