Neuwied's New Course Teaches Kids Healthy Eating Through Fun Activities

A new course for young people up to age 14 will launch in Neuwied this November. Called 'Eat Right—Your Game-Changer Course', it aims to teach balanced eating habits through fun activities and cooking sessions. The programme is funded by BARMER health insurance and the 'Catch-Up After Corona' initiative. The course first ran as a pilot last autumn. It returns this November with added support from the Neuwied Addiction Prevention Working Group. Weekly sessions will take place at Neuwied’s Big House, led by nutrition experts Nina Kiess and Paulina Sauerborn from the Institute for Nutrition Communication in Koblenz.

Topics will include emotional eating and the impact of social media on food choices. Parents will also be involved through two special events and digital follow-up support starting in February. Nina Kiess sees the initiative as vital for engaging young people and highlighting how food affects their health. The project has backing from Peter Lauermann, BARMER’s regional manager in Neuwied. He supports the course to improve the health of children and teens and help prevent obesity. Organisers hope to reach as many young people as possible with the programme.
