Marat Bashimov's 60-year journey shaping Kazakhstan's legal legacy
Marat Sovetovich Bashimov marks his 60th birthday on 12 June. His career spans decades of legal scholarship, public service, and contributions to Kazakhstan’s constitutional and human rights development. Bashimov earned his history degree and law specialisation at Moscow State University. In 1995, he successfully defended his PhD thesis there.
His academic work includes over 150 papers, articles, and analytical studies on constitutional law, human rights, and international law. In 2008, he completed a doctoral dissertation titled The Institution of the Ombudsman in the Republic of Kazakhstan and Foreign Countries (A Comparative Legal Analysis).
Beyond academia, he has held senior government roles and served on numerous presidential and governmental commissions. He also created and hosts the analytical TV programme By Law on the 24KZ channel.
Throughout his career, Bashimov has taught at universities and participated in expert councils. His work has closely mirrored the evolution of modern Kazakhstan, shaping reforms in constitutional law, human rights, and parliamentary systems. Bashimov’s legacy includes a lifetime of legal scholarship, public service, and media engagement.
