Abu Dhabi launches 'Safety in the Heat' campaign amid summer work ban

The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre has launched a new push to promote heat safety during the summer months. The campaign aligns with the UAE’s annual midday work ban, running from June 15 to September 15. Employers and workers are being urged to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The centre’s 'Safety in the Heat' programme aims to reduce heat illnesses and injuries. Over the past 11 years, its awareness efforts have reached more than 9 million people through over 22,000 educational and inspection visits.

Workers are advised to drink at least one litre of water before starting work. They should also consume at least two litres every two to three hours during the day. Carrying a two-litre water container and increasing salt intake are also recommended to replace lost minerals.

The programme highlights five key warning signs of heat stress. These include heat rash, heat cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The campaign supports the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s midday work ban. It seeks to ensure workers remain safe in extreme temperatures. The measures aim to prevent heat-related health issues during the hottest months of the year.
