Nigerian Patient Walks Again After Life-Changing Hip Surgery in Vietnam

A Nigerian patient named Atueyi has successfully undergone a complex hip replacement surgery in Vietnam. His condition, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, had caused severe deformity and a 5cm difference in leg length since childhood. The procedure was performed by Dr Le Quang Huy at Hồng Ngọc Phuc Truong Minh General Hospital. Atueyi had long struggled with pain and mobility issues due to his condition. His left leg was significantly shorter, forcing him to walk on tiptoe. After visiting several local hospitals, he was advised to have hip replacement surgery.

He was then introduced to Hồng Ngọc General Hospital and Dr Le Quang Huy. An online consultation helped Atueyi understand his diagnosis: stage IV avascular necrosis with severe deformity and limb length discrepancy. Dr Huy decided to perform a total hip replacement using the SuperPATH approach.

The surgery proved highly effective. Within just 24 hours, Atueyi could walk and perform daily activities independently. His pain also improved significantly after the procedure. Hồng Ngọc General Hospital has reinforced its reputation as a trusted centre for international patients with complex musculoskeletal disorders. Atueyi’s successful surgery and rapid recovery highlight the hospital’s expertise in advanced orthopaedic treatments. The case demonstrates the effectiveness of modern surgical techniques in restoring mobility and quality of life.
