Berlin and Brandenburg brace for extreme 35°C heatwave this weekend

Germany's Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) has issued a heat warning for Berlin and much of Brandenburg. The alert comes ahead of expected temperatures between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius on Saturday. Residents have been urged to take precautions against the extreme conditions. The German Weather Service predicts scorching highs across the affected areas. Berlin’s densely built-up neighbourhoods may struggle the most, as temperatures are unlikely to drop significantly at night. This sustained heat increases the risk of strain on both people and infrastructure.

The BBK has advised the public to stay out of the sun, drink plenty of water, and keep indoor spaces cool. It warned that extreme heat can cause dizziness, confusion, exhaustion, or even heatstroke. The most vulnerable include those aged 65 and over, people with preexisting health conditions, infants, and young children.

The warning does not cover the eastern region of Brandenburg or the southernmost part of the state. These areas are expected to remain outside the extreme heat zone. The heat warning remains in place for Berlin and most of Brandenburg. Authorities have stressed the importance of following safety advice to avoid heat-related illness. The forecast suggests little relief for the most affected urban areas until temperatures subside.
