Trường Sa Islands transform daily life with greenery, healthcare and education
The Trường Sa special zone is seeing growing efforts to improve daily life and sustainability. Soldiers, residents, and fishermen now benefit from expanded greenery, healthcare, and education on the islands. These developments aim to enhance both material and spiritual well-being in the remote archipelago. Soldiers on Sinh Tồn Island have taken up vegetable farming alongside their military duties. They cultivate green vegetables, identical to those consumed on the mainland, to support local food needs. Rich soil is brought in from the mainland to ensure healthy plant growth and strengthen coral foundations.
Each platoon receives a designated plot of land to expand production. This initiative is part of the 'Greening Trường Sa' programme, which seeks sustainable development for the islands.
On Trường Sa Đông Island, rows of casuarinas and square-leaf banyans now line the landscape. These trees provide shade, act as windbreaks, and help shield the islands from harsh sea conditions.
The Song Tử Tây Island clinic plays a vital role in healthcare for the region. Equipped with essential medicines and devices, it meets primary health needs for soldiers, residents, and fishermen. The clinic has already treated around 10 cases of decompression sickness and provided medical care to over 220 fishermen.
Education has also seen improvements. Classrooms on Song Tử Tây Island offer a stable learning environment, protecting pupils from strong winds and waves. Students remain dedicated to their studies despite the challenging surroundings. The Trường Sa special zone continues to develop its infrastructure and self-sufficiency. Clinics, greenery, and education facilities are making life more secure and sustainable for those living and working on the islands. These efforts address both practical needs and long-term growth for the community.
