78 Million Women Fear Job Loss After Miscarriage; Study Reveals Silent Trauma Of Pregnancy Loss In Indian Workplaces

India's Workplaces Tackle the Stigma of Pregnancy Loss Head-On

A new campaign aims to address the silence around pregnancy loss in Indian workplaces. Quest Global has launched a nationwide initiative to create more supportive environments for women. The move follows a study revealing widespread fears among employees about discussing miscarriages at work. The campaign, titled Break the Silence, highlights the struggles faced by millions of women. Research shows that 78 million fear losing their jobs or damaging their careers if they speak openly about pregnancy loss. Another 80 million remain quiet due to worries about judgement from colleagues and managers.

The impact on confidence and performance is significant. Three in four women reported lower self-esteem after a miscarriage, directly affecting their work and career growth. Nearly half said they would feel more at ease voicing concerns in a supportive workplace. Meanwhile, 43 per cent admitted they would stay loyal to employers who offer help during such difficult times. Quest Global has teamed up with YourDOST to provide free support. Services include a 24-hour helpline, peer support groups, and training materials for staff. Five major organisations have already joined the effort to foster more inclusive workplaces across India. The lack of support also risks driving women away from their jobs. Around 70 million would consider quitting if their employer failed to provide adequate assistance after a pregnancy loss.

The campaign seeks to change workplace attitudes towards pregnancy loss in India. With free resources and growing corporate involvement, it aims to reduce stigma and improve support. The findings suggest that better policies could help retain talent and boost employee well-being.
