"Under Us" Star Nearly Lost His Sight - Kai Noll's emergency surgery saves his vision after sudden blindness scare
Kai Noll, best known for his long-running role as Rufus Sturm in Unter uns, has faced a serious health scare that put his eyesight at risk. The actor, who also performed in Karl May Festival productions, recently underwent emergency surgery after a sudden loss of vision in one eye. Doctors later confirmed the cause was a benign tumour on his eyelid.
The trouble began while Noll was preparing for a riding scene. Without warning, his vision in one eye sharply deteriorated. Medical tests revealed a tumour pressing on the eyelid, requiring immediate surgery to avoid lasting damage. Fortunately, the procedure succeeded, and his sight returned to normal.
After leaving *Unter uns* in 2023, Noll admitted to struggling with a professional void and even depression. Despite this, he has since turned his attention to film and theatre. Upcoming projects include roles in *The Goodman* and a production of *Dracula*. Though he has moved on to new work, Noll hasn't completely closed the door on his past. He recently hinted that a return to *Unter uns* as Rufus Sturm remains a possibility.
Noll's surgery was successful, and his vision has fully recovered. With the tumour confirmed as benign, he can now focus on his upcoming film and theatre roles. His experience has also left the door open for a potential comeback to the soap that first made him a household name.
