Filming for A Special Memory faced an unexpected delay when lead actor Carlo Aquino suffered a health scare on set. The incident happened during an intense scene, forcing production to halt temporarily. Despite this, the Philippine adaptation of the Japanese series Pure Soul remains on track for its cinema release on 11 March.

The problem arose while Aquino was shooting a demanding moment where his character had to break a plate. Co-star Bela Padilla later revealed that his lips turned pale, prompting director Jerry Sineneng to stop filming and send him home. The production team quickly checked his blood pressure, which was dangerously high, and administered medication.

Aquino, known for his professionalism, reportedly wanted to keep working but was advised to rest. Padilla also shared that the actor enjoys heavy meals and drinks a lot of coffee, habits that may have contributed to the episode. This isn't the first time the two have collaborated—they previously starred together in the 2018 film Meet Me in St. Gallen.

The incident added to the scrutiny around Aquino, who had briefly stepped back after a 2023 controversy. However, his return in 2024 with Netflix's Widows' Web and subsequent projects like the 2025 film Lola Madre and the Vivamax series Siklab have helped rebuild his reputation.

A Special Memory will premiere in Philippine cinemas as scheduled on 11 March. The film's production team has since ensured Aquino's health is stable, allowing the project to move forward. His performance in this adaptation remains highly anticipated by fans.
