A new experimental learning space with a teaching kitchen was officially opened at Diesterwegstraße Primary School in Braunschweig on February 12, 2026. Lord Mayor Dr. Thorsten Kornblum handed over the facility, which aims to teach children about healthy eating through hands-on experience. The project was made possible by funding from the Kroschke Children's Foundation and other local partners.

The renovation of the learning space took five months to complete at a cost of around €120,000. The kitchen is designed for flexibility, featuring mobile workstations and adjustable tables to suit different activities. At its core is the Plietsche Children's Kitchen program, run by SchlauFox e.V., which will offer cooking courses twice a year, with two sessions per week starting in the new school year.

The Kroschke Children's Foundation led the funding effort and plans to expand the initiative to other schools in Braunschweig and the surrounding area. A five-year financial plan of €145,000 has already been secured for this purpose. Additional support came from the Eckensberger Foundation, PSD Bank, and the Rotary Club of Braunschweig.

The new space allows children to experiment with food, learn cooking skills, and develop a better understanding of nutrition. The foundation aims to have the program running in more schools by the end of 2026, though exact numbers have not yet been confirmed.

The teaching kitchen at Diesterwegstraße Primary School is now operational, offering practical lessons in healthy eating. With funding in place, the Kroschke Children's Foundation will continue expanding the program, bringing cooking education to more children across the region.
