Yamal's free Vitamin D program benefits over 45,500 young children
Regional authorities in Yamal have provided free Vitamin D supplements to over 45,500 children since the programme began. The initiative covers infants and toddlers from birth up to three years old. Doctors prescribe the vitamin to support healthy growth and prevent illness in young children. The programme offers Vitamin D at no cost to families, with doses tailored to a child’s age. Infants under one receive 1,000 units (two drops), while those aged one to three get 1,500 units (three drops). Each child is given two bottles per year, spaced three months apart.
Pediatricians provide the supplement during routine visits, home check-ups, or telemedicine appointments. The vitamin helps prevent calcium deficiency, aiding bone, tooth, and nervous system development. It also strengthens the immune system and reduces the risk of rickets and viral infections. In 2024, 21,106 children received the supplement, followed by 19,793 in 2025. Since early 2026, another 5,000 have benefited from the scheme.
The free distribution of Vitamin D in Yamal ensures young children receive essential nutrients for healthy development. Over three years, the programme has reached tens of thousands of families. Authorities continue to monitor and expand access to the supplement.
