Wolfsburg Hospital Debuts AI-Powered Robot for Ultra-Precise Spine Surgery

Wolfsburg Municipal Hospital has introduced a cutting-edge imaging system for spine surgery. The Loop-X robot, combined with Curve navigation technology, promises millimetre-precise operations. The city and hospital jointly invested nearly one million euros in the advanced equipment.

The new system generates real-time 2D and 3D scans during surgery. This allows surgeons to place screws and implants with extreme accuracy. The risk of damaging nerves, blood vessels, or other sensitive structures is significantly reduced.

The Loop-X robot is mobile, meaning it can be moved between operating rooms. This flexibility helps surgical teams work more efficiently while cutting radiation exposure for patients and staff. Fewer post-operative checks are needed, speeding up recovery and easing the burden on patients. Funding for the system came from both municipal sources and the Hospital Structure Fund. Wolfsburg Hospital plans to use the technology mainly for spine operations, as well as in orthopaedics and trauma surgery, particularly for pelvic procedures. The system supports minimally invasive techniques, leading to shorter surgeries, less blood loss, and lower radiation doses. The investment is part of the hospital's broader strategy to expand its reputation beyond the region. By adopting the Loop-X system, Wolfsburg aims to become a centre for medical innovation, research, and training.

The Loop-X system is now operational at Wolfsburg Hospital, making it the only confirmed facility in Germany using this technology as of March 2026. The upgrade is expected to improve surgical precision, reduce complications, and enhance patient recovery. The hospital's focus on advanced medical tools reinforces its position as a leader in specialised healthcare.
