Why 75% of people ignore their electronic health records—and how to fix it

A new survey reveals that most people ignore their electronic health records (EHR). According to Forsa, 71% of respondents do not manage theirs, while 75% have never even looked into it properly. Concerns over data privacy, perceived complexity and doubts about its usefulness are the main reasons for this low engagement. To address these issues, the Neuwied Adult Education Center is offering a free public lecture on April 15. Titled 'The Electronic Health Record (EHR) – Taking Control of Your Health', the event will explain how the system works and what benefits it provides. Attendees will learn how to store test results, X-rays, medical reports, and medication plans directly on their smartphones.

The session begins at 5:30 PM in the Amalie-Raiffeisen Hall at vhs Neuwied, Heddesdorfer Straße 33. While admission is free, organisers ask participants to register in advance for planning purposes. The lecture aims to provide clear, independent information, helping people manage their health data with confidence. One key advantage of the EHR is that users keep full control over who accesses their information. They can also decide how long their records remain stored. The event hopes to dispel uncertainties and encourage more people to take advantage of digital health tools.

The lecture offers a chance for the public to better understand the EHR system. By addressing common concerns, organisers aim to increase engagement with digital health records. Those interested in attending should register ahead of the April 15 event.
