Sverdlovsk Region transforms rural healthcare with hospital mergers and outreach clinics
Sverdlovsk Region has launched a major healthcare initiative to improve medical access for remote communities. The programme, led by Governor and Health Minister Tatyana Savinova, includes hospital mergers, specialist outreach clinics, and vaccination drives. These efforts align with Russia’s national project Long and Active Life and aim to bring essential services closer to residents.
The first step involved merging Yekaterinburg’s Central City Clinical Hospital No. 3 with district hospitals in Alapayevsk, Verkhnyaya Sysert, and Makhnevo. This restructuring expanded access to specialised care for rural populations. Over a thousand people in Alapayevsk and nearby areas later received consultations and diagnostic tests from visiting specialists.
Specialists in rheumatology, cardiology, and surgery conducted outreach clinics as part of the programme. More than a thousand diagnostic procedures were carried out, helping detect diseases early. Additionally, residents received tick-borne encephalitis vaccinations to prevent severe cases of the illness. Long-term plans include renovating multiple hospital departments by 2030. Modular paramedic-obstetric stations will also be installed to further support remote communities. The combined measures seek to reduce travel burdens and ensure timely medical intervention.
The initiative has already delivered consultations, diagnostics, and vaccinations to over a thousand residents. Future upgrades will focus on infrastructure and specialised care. These changes are designed to strengthen healthcare delivery across Sverdlovsk Region by the end of the decade.
