Surgeons remove football-sized hernia in rare Primorsky Krai operation
A patient in Primorsky Krai has undergone a complex surgery to repair a massive postoperative hernia. The growth, measuring over 20 cm in diameter, had reached the size of a football near a surgical scar. Doctors at Regional Clinical Hospital No. 2 performed the procedure after the condition threatened the individual’s health. The operation lasted nearly three hours. Surgeons carefully separated the hernia from surrounding tissues while ensuring the ureters and urostomy remained functional. They then restored the structure of the anterior abdominal wall and implanted a mesh endoprosthesis for support.
The patient recovered quickly and was discharged within a week. Follow-up care continues on an outpatient basis. This surgery follows another recent procedure at Vladivostok Clinical Hospital No. 2, where a 52-year-old woman had a large tumour removed after suffering persistent hip pain.
The successful repair of the hernia allowed the patient to leave the hospital after just seven days. Ongoing outpatient monitoring ensures their recovery remains on track. The case highlights the hospital’s ability to handle complex abdominal surgeries.
