Sogang University has once again been recognised as the leading institution for supporting students with disabilities. The university secured the top spot in the Korean government’s evaluation of educational welfare for the fifth year running. Its comprehensive system, known as 'Dasoni', ensures assistance across all aspects of student life.
On April 8, 2023, the university hosted a Disability Awareness Day to highlight ongoing efforts and challenges. Around twenty participants gathered to share experiences under the slogan ‘Everyday life, accessible to all’. The university’s Support Center for Students with Disabilities oversees tailored services from admission to graduation. Academic accommodations include priority seating in classrooms, extended exam time, and private testing rooms. Note-taking support is also provided to ensure equal learning opportunities.
Financial aid plays a key role, with the Xavier Scholarship covering between one-third and two-thirds of tuition fees. Additional scholarships and living support schemes further ease the burden for eligible students.
Campus infrastructure is designed for accessibility, featuring ramps, elevators, automatic doors, and dedicated parking spaces. Assistive devices are available for loan, while the library offers extended borrowing periods, designated seating, and reading enlargement stations for visually impaired students.
The recent Disability Awareness Day was co-hosted by Campus Ministry Affairs, the Institute for Global Engagement & Sustainability, and the Support Center for Students with Disabilities. During the event, attendees discussed daily obstacles faced on campus, reinforcing the university’s commitment to inclusivity. Sogang University’s consistent top ranking reflects its structured approach to disability support. The combination of academic adjustments, financial aid, and accessible facilities aims to create an equitable environment. The annual awareness event further strengthens dialogue between students and staff on improving campus life.
