Russian Doctors Pioneer Gel Injection to Repair Damaged Cartilage Without Surgery

A new joint treatment developed by traumatologists in Nizhny Novgorod is spreading across Russia. The method uses a hydrocolloid gel injection to repair damaged cartilage and ease pain. Doctors from multiple regions have already travelled to learn the technique firsthand. The procedure involves injecting a special gel into the affected joint. Medical teams from Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, the Far East, and the Ilizarov Center have visited Nizhny Novgorod for training. The method is now being adopted nationwide, with growing interest from younger patients. Doctors note a sharp increase in severe cartilage damage among people under 40, making the treatment especially valuable for this group.
