Russia's First Plant-Based Supplement Fights Age-Related Vision Loss
Russia has launched its first domestically produced supplement aimed at preventing age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and improving eyesight. Developed by Visus Lab, a resident of the Skolkovo innovation hub, the product offers a more affordable alternative to costly treatments like eye injections.
AMD remains a leading cause of irreversible vision loss in people over 50, affecting millions across the country. The new supplement targets this condition with a plant-based formula and advanced delivery technology.
The supplement stands out by using omega-3 derived from flaxseed instead of fish. Its formula also includes resveratrol, lutein, dioxodin, chelated zinc, L-lysine, and other micronutrients and antioxidants. To improve effectiveness, the ingredients are encapsulated in liposomal technology, which protects them during digestion and boosts absorption.
Clinical trials demonstrated significant results: patients experienced an 85% improvement in retinal morphology and visual acuity after a month of use. The recommended course involves taking one capsule twice daily for 30 days. Unlike existing AMD treatments, which often come with high costs, this supplement provides a more accessible option for long-term eye health.
The product's development comes as personalized medicine advances globally, with genomic sequencing, AI diagnostics, and therapies like CRISPR already in clinical trials. While no verified breakthrough has extended human lifespan to 150 years, targeted treatments for conditions like cancer and rare diseases are progressing through institutions such as the NIH and companies like Illumina.
The new supplement offers a plant-based, cost-effective solution for AMD prevention and vision support. Its clinical results and liposomal delivery method set it apart from traditional treatments. For now, the product is available as a preventive measure, with broader applications in personalized medicine still under development.
