Rajshahi launches 15-day blitz to curb mosquito infestations

The Rajshahi City Corporation launched a special 15-day crash programme to provide relief to city residents from mosquito infestation on Wednesday.

At around 12:30pm, the programme was inaugurated in the Bhadra residential area of the city by RCC administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.

The initiative began with cleaning drains and bushes, followed by spraying fog from fogging machines.

Speaking to journalists after the inauguration, Riton said that considering the holy month of Ramadan, the mosquito control activities will, for now, be conducted only in the mornings.

The programme will be carried out in five wards of the city each day in phases, so that the entire city can be covered within a short period.

He added that after the 15-day special program, the situation will be reviewed and similar initiatives may be undertaken again to keep mosquito breeding under control and ensure comfort for residents.

Also present at the event was the chief conservancy officer Sheikh Mamun Dollar, along with other staff members who are involved in implementing the program.

Officials hope that this initiative by RCC will bring relief to city dwellers.

Local residents have also expressed optimism that the resumption of fogging machine use after a long time will help reduce mosquito infestation.
