Qatar Red Crescent delivers lifesaving food aid to thousands during Ramadan
The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has rolled out a series of food aid initiatives across multiple countries during Ramadan. Thousands of vulnerable people, including displaced families and those with disabilities, are receiving essential support through partnerships with local organisations.
Efforts span from Gaza to Somalia, Afghanistan, and beyond, with food parcels and iftar meals reaching communities in need.
In Gaza, QRCS has delivered 17,833 food parcels to displaced families, costing USD 1,850,000. The aid targets those most affected by ongoing instability in the region.
In Somalia's Northeast State, 1,951 parcels were distributed to 10,806 beneficiaries, including patients and people with disabilities. The total expenditure for this operation reached USD 184,931.
Afghanistan's Paktika and Zabul Provinces received 764 food parcels, with another 400 planned for distribution soon. QRCS worked alongside the Afghan Red Crescent Society to ensure the aid reached families in remote areas.
Meanwhile, in Tanzania, a collaboration with the Tanzania Red Cross Society provided food parcels to 1,176 individuals in Dar es Salaam. Chad also saw 1,280 people benefit from similar parcels, distributed with the help of local partners.
Preparations are now underway in Albania, where 500 food parcels will be handed out to 2,000 vulnerable people through the Albanian Red Cross.
Back in Qatar, QRCS continued its On-the-go Ramadan Iftar initiative at Katara Cultural Village. The programme has served 350 meals daily, totalling 10,150 meals throughout Ramadan.
The QRCS initiatives have delivered critical food aid to tens of thousands across several countries. From large-scale distributions in Gaza to targeted support in Somalia and Afghanistan, the efforts aim to ease hardship during the holy month. Local partnerships have played a key role in ensuring the aid reaches those who need it most.
