The Philippines recorded 4,633 new HIV cases in the first three months of 2026. Health officials reported that most transmissions occurred through sexual contact. On average, 51 new infections were detected each day during this period. January saw the highest number of cases, with 1,690 new infections. February followed with 1,407 reported cases, while March had 1,536.
Of the total, 4,214 cases (91%) were linked to sexual transmission. The largest group, 3,095 cases, involved male-to-male contact. Another 567 cases resulted from male-to-male/female sex, and 552 cases came from male-to-female transmission. Non-sexual transmission accounted for the remaining 9%. This included 13 cases of mother-to-child transmission and 2 cases from shared infected needles.
The data highlights ongoing HIV transmission, primarily through sexual contact. Daily detection rates remain steady, with health authorities continuing to monitor trends. The figures underscore the need for targeted prevention efforts in high-risk groups.
