More than 307,000 residents of Nizhny Novgorod Region have completed mandatory medical checkups since January 2026. The results reveal widespread health risks, with chronic illnesses identified in 9,800 individuals during the screenings. The most common diagnoses included cardiovascular diseases, respiratory conditions, diabetes and cancer. Poor diet emerged as the leading risk factor, affecting 43.9% of those examined. High cholesterol was detected in 30.3% of patients, while elevated blood sugar levels appeared in 8.5%.
Smoking was reported in 26% of residents, and 18.6% were classified as high-risk for cardiovascular disease. Physical inactivity was also widespread, found in 41.9% of participants. Additionally, 32.4% of those checked were overweight. The findings highlight key health challenges in the region. With nearly 10,000 cases of chronic illness recorded, authorities now have detailed data on prevalent risks. This information could shape future public health strategies in Nizhny Novgorod.
