A recent roundtable in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast brought together officials, lawmakers, and public figures to discuss sports and people development. The meeting focused on updating the United Russia party's People's Programme, with a strong emphasis on public input and regional progress.
The event, organised by the United Russia party's regional Public Support Headquarters, centred on the theme of Human Capital Development Strategy: Culture and Sports. Key attendees included Dmitry Filipenko, Yekaterina Parilova, and Alexey Antonov, alongside government representatives and community leaders. Discussions covered staffing challenges, municipal funding, and ways to broaden access to sports facilities for different groups.
Yekaterina Parilova presented the sports sector's 2025 performance report. She noted that over 1.7 million residents now participate in regular physical activity, with more than 165 athletes competing in national and reserve teams. The region currently boasts 7,739 sports facilities, with 60.2% of the population having access, alongside 42 fitness and wellness centres.
Between 2021 and 2025, the oblast built or renovated over 80 sports sites. These included five indoor complexes, 17 outdoor courts, and 20 modular ski bases. Rural areas saw particular growth, with 152 facilities upgraded or constructed between 2021 and 2024. A standout project was the 18,000-square-metre Parus Regional Adaptive Sports Center in Dzerzhinsk, designed specifically for athletes with disabilities.
Dmitry Filipenko stressed the need for ongoing public dialogue in refining the party's updated People's Programme. The session aimed to gather concrete proposals for improving sports and cultural infrastructure across the region.
The roundtable produced actionable recommendations for the People's Programme, focusing on infrastructure expansion and accessibility. With continued investment, the region aims to sustain growth in sports participation and support for athletes at all levels.
