New probiotic study reveals breakthrough relief for GERD and IBS patients

A new clinical trial has revealed promising results for Karkuma BioComfort, a probiotic food product designed to improve gastrointestinal health. The study, presented at an event in Dhaka, showed significant reductions in symptoms like acidity, heartburn, and bloating among patients with GERD and IBS.

The findings were shared at the Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences on the Dhaka University campus on Thursday. Experts gathered to discuss the growing importance of probiotics in managing digestive disorders and chronic health issues.

The trial focused on Karkuma BioComfort, a formulated product containing the probiotic Bacillus coagulans and the prebiotic FOS. Participants suffering from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) reported fewer symptoms after using the product. Issues such as constipation, diarrhoea, and bloating were notably reduced.

The event brought together scientists, physicians, and researchers to explore the benefits of probiotic-based foods. Renowned nutrition scientist Jeba Mahmud spoke about their role in managing gastrointestinal problems, particularly in children. Arun Kumar Mondal, executive director of Organic Nutrition Limited, also addressed the audience. Attendees included Gopalganj Science and Technology University vice-chancellor Professor Hossain Uddin Shekhar and MBSTU vice-chancellor Professor Md Anwarul Azim Akhand. Organised by the department of food technology and nutritional science at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, the discussions covered probiotics as functional foods and the need for stronger regulatory frameworks. Speakers emphasised a global trend towards probiotic foods as a way to lower the risk of long-term health conditions. The event highlighted how such products could play a key role in preventive healthcare.

The study’s results suggest that Karkuma BioComfort could offer relief for those with common digestive disorders. While the manufacturer remains unnamed, the findings add to growing evidence supporting probiotics in managing gastrointestinal health. Further research and regulatory attention may shape their wider adoption in medical and dietary practices.
