Mumbai's Coastal Road Gardens, a sprawling 70-hectare green space, is set to open in three seasons. The project transforms reclaimed land along the city's southern coastal stretch into a public recreation hub. Backed by the Reliance Foundation, it carries an estimated cost of Rs 400 crore.

The gardens will sit alongside the 5.5 km Coastal Road promenade, operated by the Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RIL). Originally named by Nita Ambani, the space aims to create a 'Green Necklace' complementing Marine Drive's iconic Queens Necklace.

Over half the area—55%—will feature forests and woodlands, while 25% is reserved for open recreational spaces. The remaining 20% will split evenly between pathways and plazas. Visitors can expect amenities like garden trails, an amphitheatre, and a sunset view gallery. Sports facilities will include pickleball courts, outdoor gyms, and children's play areas.

The design also incorporates cultural attractions such as an art gallery, a Ferris wheel, and a festival plaza. Seven access points will connect the gardens to key locations: Napean Sea Road, Breach Candy, Haji Ali, Mahalaxmi, Worli South, and Worli North. However, current updates on the construction status of these entrances remain unavailable.

The Coastal Road Gardens will add a major green space to Mumbai's waterfront. Its mix of natural, recreational, and cultural features is intended to serve both residents and tourists. The project's completion will mark a significant expansion of the city's public leisure areas.
