Motorcyclist speeds through town at nearly 120 km/h - Motorcyclist caught at 118 km/h in 50 km/h zone faces heavy penalties

A 21-year-old motorcyclist has been caught speeding at 118 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Hanau. Police took action after the rider repeatedly revved his engine loudly, drawing immediate attention to the bike's excessive noise and speed.

The incident adds to a growing number of dangerous riding cases in the region, with 47 similar offences recorded in the past year alone.

The rider was stopped after officers heard the motorcycle's loud engine revving twice in quick succession. Upon inspection, they discovered the bike lacked an exhaust silencer, making it far noisier than permitted. The motorcycle's mandatory roadworthiness inspection (MOT) had also expired six months earlier.

When questioned, the rider claimed he was simply 'breaking in the engine' following winter storage. However, speed checks confirmed he was travelling at nearly double the legal limit. Authorities immediately impounded the motorcycle. The rider now faces a €1,500 fine, two penalty points on his licence, and a three-month driving ban. This case follows a wider trend in Hanau and the surrounding Main-Kinzig-Kreis area. Over the past 12 months, police have documented 47 instances of dangerous motorcycling, including 12 cases where speeds exceeded the limit by over 100 km/h. Five of these incidents resulted in serious accidents.

The rider's penalties include a fine, licence points, and a temporary ban from driving. His motorcycle remains impounded until further notice. Local police continue to monitor speeding offences as part of ongoing road safety efforts in the region.
