Millets take center stage at SSB's nutrition awareness exhibition in Rangia
The 24th Battalion of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in Rangia hosted a Shree Anna (Millets) Mela-Exhibition on Thursday. The main event aimed to raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of coarse grains and their role in daily diets. HK Gupta, Commandant of the battalion, officially opened the exhibition to the public.
Gupta kicked off the event by highlighting the wide-ranging advantages of millets. He pointed out their contributions to health, food security, and the economic well-being of farmers. The exhibition also stressed how these grains can help prevent conditions like diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
Visitors explored displays detailing millet-based food preparation, nutritional facts, and health benefits. Traditional dishes and sweets made from around 35 different millet varieties were prepared and served. The focus remained on educating attendees about incorporating these grains into everyday meals.
The primary goal of the mela was to promote the value of coarse grains. Organisers provided practical information on how millets can improve diets and support local agriculture. The event drew attention to their potential as a sustainable and healthy food source.
The Shree Anna Mela-Exhibition offered hands-on learning about millets through food samples and informational displays. It underscored the grain's health benefits while encouraging wider adoption in daily cooking. The initiative also aimed to strengthen the economic position of farmers growing these crops.
