A group of medical students from Vladivostok’s Basic Medical College sprang into action during a flight on May 18. When a 59-year-old passenger collapsed mid-air The incident unfolded on a Vladivostok-to-Moscow flight, part of the students’ journey to Minsk for an international competition. Roughly halfway through the eight-hour-and-35-minute trip, the passenger lost consciousness. Without hesitation, the students used the aircraft’s medical kit, along with their own stethoscope and blood pressure monitor, to assess and treat her.

For the next six hours, they worked to stabilise the woman’s condition. Upon landing at Moscow’s Sheremetyeo Airport, they handed her over to waiting ground medical teams. Days later, during the Olympiad in Minsk, the students received commemorative awards. The honours featured the emblem of the *Start a Heart* educational project, highlighting their real-world application of medical training under pressure.

The passenger’s condition improved enough for a safe handover to hospital staff after the flight. The students’ actions demonstrated their preparedness in an emergency, earning them formal recognition at the competition. Their training and quick thinking made a critical difference at 30,000 feet.
