Legendary epidemiologist Nattela Tkavadze celebrates 85 years of public health leadership

Nattela Tkavadze, a respected epidemiologist in Magadan Oblast, marked her 85th birthday on May 8. Known for her decades of service in public health, she continues to lead a department at the Magadan Regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology. Colleagues and officials gathered to honour her long and influential career.

Born in Novorossiysk on May 8, 1941, Tkavadze later graduated from Rostov State Medical University. She went on to dedicate over 50 years to the Magadan healthcare system, earning a reputation as a leading figure in epidemiology.

On her birthday, Dmitry Shapovalov, a member of the Kolyma Regional Parliament, presented her with a commemorative address and a gift from the Magadan Oblast Duma. He spoke on behalf of the legislative body, acknowledging her contributions to public health. Dmitry Borovikov, chief physician of the regional Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology, also extended his birthday wishes. Over the years, Tkavadze has received multiple honours, including the Excellence in Healthcare award and the title of Honored Worker of Russia’s State Sanitary and Epidemiological Service.

Tkavadze remains active in her role, guiding epidemiological efforts in the region. Her career spans more than half a century, leaving a lasting impact on Magadan’s healthcare system. The recognition from colleagues and officials highlights her enduring influence in the field.
