Kuwait tightens health checks for expats with updated Wafid programme rules

Kuwait’s Minister of Health, Dr Ahmad Al-Awadhi, has introduced an updated executive bylaw for the Wafid programme. The new rules aim to improve medical testing for expatriates before and after their arrival in the country. The 54-article bylaw also strengthens oversight and coordination between health authorities.

The Wafid programme serves as a precautionary measure to confirm the health status of expats before they travel to Kuwait. Under the new bylaw, medical tests will still be carried out at approved centres in Kuwait after arrival, following strict health protocols.

The updated regulations set clear criteria for approving and evaluating overseas medical testing facilities. They also focus on speeding up and improving the accuracy of test results for incoming expatriates. Another key goal is to boost the efficiency of preventive health measures. Health facilities must now meet higher moral and professional standards. The bylaw reinforces integrity, transparency, and better coordination among relevant bodies through digital systems.

The 54-article bylaw introduces stricter controls and clearer procedures for expat medical testing. Approved centres will handle assessments both abroad and in Kuwait, ensuring compliance with health requirements. The changes aim to streamline processes while maintaining high standards of accuracy and safety.
