Krefeld’s new family program turns healthy eating into hands-on fun

The Family Education Center in Krefeld has launched a new program to promote healthy eating. Recognised under North Rhine-Westphalia’s Continuing Education Act, the initiative offers lectures, workshops, and hands-on activities for families. Organisers aim to tackle diet-related health problems through practical learning and shared experiences.

The center’s latest programme addresses the risks of poor nutrition, which can lead to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. Children and adults alike face these dangers, alongside potential mental health challenges linked to diet.

Families can now join expanded open meetups and creative sessions. Activities include fermenting food, making healthy Carnival snacks, and preparing a nutritious Easter brunch. The full schedule is available online at www.drk-krefeld.de. No external experts are listed as collaborators on this project. Instead, the center’s own team has designed the workshops to encourage better eating habits through interactive learning.

The programme provides families with tools to improve their healthy recipes and reduce health risks. Workshops and meetups focus on practical skills, from fermentation to festive cooking. All details, including registration, can be found on the center’s website.
