Vyacheslav Nagayev, a veteran and three-time knife-throwing champion, has won Russia's top enlightenment prize for his work in sports and healthy living. The Znaniye Award, now in its fifth season, celebrates achievements in education, culture, and social impact. This year, 32 winners across 18 categories were honoured, with Nagayev standing out in the 'Contribution to Enlightenment in Sports and Healthy Lifestyles' category. Since its launch in 2021, the prize has drawn 65,984 submissions from 89 Russian regions and 79 countries.
Nagayev, a veteran of the Special Military Operation, lost both hands in combat but returned to sports as a knife-throwing champion. He now teaches others, proving that determination can overcome even the toughest challenges. His 'Lessons in Courage' take place in schools, libraries, and children's camps across Khabarovsk Krai, where he discusses military service, life values, and self-acceptance after loss.
Beyond teaching, he created a program to help veterans and disabled individuals take up adaptive sports. His work has given many a new sense of purpose. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko personally presented him with the award, highlighting the national significance of his contributions.
Nagayev's award reflects his dedication to transforming hardship into opportunity. Through sports and mentorship, he has helped others rebuild their lives after injury. The Znaniye Award continues to spotlight those making a real difference in Russian society.
