Katherine Hartley Short, a dedicated clinical social worker and mental health advocate, has passed away at the age of 42. Her family confirmed the news on February 24, though the exact cause of death remains undisclosed. Known for her commitment to trauma-informed therapy, she leaves behind her father, actor Martin Short, and two brothers.

On February 23, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to a possible suicide attempt at Katherine Short's residence. The following day, her family announced her passing. While no official cause has been released, her work in mental health advocacy—including her involvement with Bring Change 2 Mind and the Mental Health Association—highlighted her dedication to supporting others.

Short specialized in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, and borderline personality disorder through her private practice. She also supported local wellness workshops in New York between 2022 and 2025. In her personal life, she relied on her service dog, Joni, to help manage her own mental health challenges. A photo and bio of Joni were featured on her professional website.

The daughter of Martin Short and the late Nancy Dolman, Katherine was one of three siblings. Her father shared her and her brothers, Oliver and Henry, with Dolman before her passing in 2010.

Katherine Short's death has left a void in the mental health community, where she was known for both her professional expertise and advocacy. For those in crisis, support remains available through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling, texting, or chatting at 988lifeline.org.
